BOS Foundation Volunteer Expedition
BOS Foundation and WOX, a volunteer company that organises conservation programmes, have teamed up to bring you an exciting opportunity to work in an orangutan reintroduction centre, Wanariset Samboja in East Borneo.
The Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation, through the Samboja Wanariset Orangutan Reintroduction Project, is helping the Ministry of Forestry in its efforts to rehabilitate orangutans. There are currently 225 orangutans and 52 sunbears being cared for at the centre and it is hoped that most of these will be released back into the wild. However, the cost of looking after so many animals is very high and help is needed to train the orangutans and sunbears to go back into the wild.
Your money and work make the project entirely possible and ultimately you get to play a major role in the successful conservation release of orangutans and sunbears back into the wild. Of every £1 you spend, 80p goes to Indonesia to pay for staff, project costs, your accommodation and food (the money goes to the BOS Foundation who sponsor Wanariset Samboja) and as a direct contribution for materials and resources. Only 20p is spent on administration during the booking process.
You can expect duties to vary month on month, depending on the priorities of the centre. The main focus of volunteer work will be the enrichment (improving the quality of life) of the orangutans and sunbears, as well as building infrastructure for rehabilitation – such as climbing structures, feeding platforms and walkways – and the occasional day planting primary rainforest trees.
Samboja needs you, so contact volunteer@w-o-x.com to book now.
